Patriot Nevertheless

[stextbox id=”download” caption=”Testify!”]”I don’t know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.” ~George H. Bush, as attributed by atheist activist Robert I. Sherman[/stextbox]

The quote above has been bantered about as true or false, but it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference, since I am an atheist and a patriot. And there’s not a lot the right can do about it.

Abby and I went to Blue Moon Café for dinner last night, where we hadn’t been in years. She had catfish, and I had the bake potato dinner, and both were excellent. Blue Moon plays oldies music, and Abby sang along with pretty much every song.

Tomorrow is my usual July 4 routine: up early to cover the Fireball Classic 5k/10k run, then activities in Ada’s Wintersmith Park.

I am wearing one of my U. S. Flag shirts today. The flag behind me in my office is a permanent fixture. (Before anyone freaks out: those are reading glasses.)

  1. Cool photo.

It’s amazing how right wingers (or maybe it’s just the Bushes) cannot comprehend that people can hold two separate beliefs to be simultaneously true (re: patriotism, God or lack thereof). That’s called being educated, or at least possessing the ability to think.
