A Hundred Little Fires

Nothing says summertime in my garden like the marigolds I plant around the edges. These are on the west side of the garden, and have just started to bloom.

Yesterday was the annual Independence Day party in Wintersmith Park here in Ada. As the only photojournalist in town, I worked much of the day.

We have a new editor, so we are showing him the ropes. In addition to shooting, I worked on one tech problem after another. I feel like I was putting out a hundred little fires.

I love the Fourth of July for several reasons, but at the top of the list is that it always makes great pictures. It’s extremely fun to shoot, and I always feel welcome, since everyone knows me and seems glad that I’m there.

This year's fireworks show in Ada's Wintersmith Park was one of the best we've ever had. I sat so close I ended up with ashes in my hair.
