A Day in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area with my Fellow Rotarians
My Rotary friends and I pose for a photo at the start of the day’s activities.
My fellow Ada Sunrise Rotary Club members and I met Sunday, March 8 at the Chickasaw National Recreation Area’s Travertine Nature Center to enjoy hiking and exploring the area. The weather was a perfect, pure-blue sky with temperatures in the low 60s. We hiked about 2.7 miles total.
We met at the Nature Center at 2 p.m. Everyone was exactly on time.
The Travertine Nature Center was our starting point.Springtime was just beginning to show itself. The trails crosses several small streams. Our group stops for a quick photo opportunity.
We eventually hiked the Antelope/Buffalo Spring Trail, the Prairie Loop Trail, the Tall Oaks Trail, and the Buffalo Springs Trail.
The Prairie Loop Trail took on a slightly tunnel-like appearance.Everyone had a great time.We saw this young lady being photographed in the warm spring sunshine.Rotarians help form a human chain to assist at a wet crossing. One of the group thought about swinging in this vine.At the end of a short spur trail is Antelope Springs.“Hey, Rotarians! Wave for the camera!”We gathered at Buffalo Spring, known to frequent park visitors as “the round thing.”Your host smiles at Buffalo Springs. There was a nice symmetry to this tree and its reflection. This is Little Niagara Falls. This view is downstream from Little Niagara. We made s’mores, but I thought they looked too messy and sugary, so I didn’t have one.
I think we all had a great time, so hopefully we will be planning more Ada Sunrise Rotary outdoor activities soon.
It was great to be outside doing something physical with my fellow Rotarians.
