A Short Photo Excursion to Eureka Springs, Arkansas
I recently had the opportunity to visit northwest Arkansas, both to attend a dinner in honor of someone who had died recently, and to see and photograph Eureka Springs.
I shot these images with my Lumix GH2 with the 14mm f/2.5 and the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lenses.
We spotted these metal bird sculptures on the road to Eureka Springs.This chapel resides at the entrance to the Christ of the Ozarks statue.The chapel looked amazing in the early spring sunshine.Also on the walk to the Christ of the Ozarks is this piece of the Berlin Wall.These stained glass windows, chair, organ, guitar and flag were all neatly arranged in the corner of the chapel.Early spring blossoms create an archway approaching Christ of the Ozarks.This wider view from the path to Christ of the Ozarks shows off the brilliant spring sunshine.I have a few seconds of 8mm film of my grandmother Lydia Batten walking at this spot. She was not well, and walked with some difficulty.Photographer Dan goes vertical with his composition.This gentleman showed us the spot where you can stand adjacent to this large wooden cross and hear a “miraculous” acoustic effect. When I told him I was from Ada, he actually knew several of my Ada friends.A tiny chapel replica sits at the entrance to the wooden cross.This view from the Crescent Hotel looks down at the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church.Walking down to Saint Elizabeths, we saw Stations of the Cross statuary.White statues at Saint Elizabeth’s depict the Passion Play.Churches and chapels are always fun to photograph because they are often constructed so well and kept immaculate.Votive candles and stained glass take on deep colors.An ornate cross is silhouetted against red stained glass.The vestibule at Saint Elizabeth’s is colorful, beautiful, and photogenic.Dan photographed me photographing the vestibule of the church.This view looks up at the ceiling in the church vestibule.Brass votive candles glow in the vestibule of Saint Elizabeth’s.Someone had a bubble machine set up on the plaza at Eureka Springs.On my way from Huntsville to Fayetteville I spotted fiberglass sculptures, like this blue dinosaur.Finishing my photo ops for the day was this handsomely affectionately-painted Volkswagen. My first car was a 1973 VW Beetle.
