I have visited the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge since I was a young teenager. Over the years I checked off one area after another, but on this occasion, I explored the one area I never visited, the Charon’s Garden Wilderness Area. Charon in Greek mythology is the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead.

Nice. But where’s the info on Bernie’s victim?
Beautiful as always.
You captured the day so beautifully.
I remember the trip to the Glacier Rocks so vividly and the photos I made there are among my favorites. Would love to go back and see it again. Hopefully will some day. Another great blog entry, Richard.
Brings back such great memories.I will have to get back there soon before my kids head off to college.I don’t remember if we ever went out to the mountains together when we were kids but we may have.I loved riding my Schwinn Continental (which was way to tall for me) out there.I still have and ride that bike today.
I was sad to hear of Treasure Lake Job Corps closing. I went and read up (ironically in the Washington Post) about it’s passing. It was good to see the cliff face I know perfectly well. It’s good to be alive.
Now for the trip’s results – is it possible to get better still?
I see in these latest renderings an increase in fidelity with gentle nods to lonely truths.
