Meet our Chihuahuas, Sierra Kayenta Avenue and Maximum Speed Boulevard. Sierra is a long-coat, registered Chihuahua, and Max is a smooth-coat pound puppy...
These two were named "Cutest Pets" at the annual Pre-Paid Legal Services (where Abby works) Cutest Pet Contest in May 2007.
A few months before we got Sierra, Abby had a dream that we had a baby named "Sarah Avenue." But while trying to come up with a name, we hesitated because Richard's mom's name is Sarah, and we had friends with a dog named Sarah. We really liked the sound of "Sierra." Kayenta is a town Abby and Richard visited on The High Road, their first vacation together, in 2003. The word "Kayenta" is Navajo for "water going in different directions like ribbon."
Max was already named when Mitchell adopted him at the animal shelter at the beginning of 2006, but he needed something to go with Sierra's unusual moniker, so we made it "Maximum Speed Boulevard."
Here is Mitchell adopting Max at the Pontotoc Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in January 2006...
